SCS Musicals is a community musical theatre group based in Port Perry, in the Township of Scugog. Its beginnings date to 1976 as the Scugog Choral Society, staging choral concerts and operettas at Town Hall 1873 for local music lovers. Today it describes itself as Scugog and North Durham Region's longest-standing community musical theatre group, performing two musical theatre productions each year at Town Hall 1873 Theatre, with occasional standup concerts honouring its choral beginnings. Its productions focus on Broadway blockbusters and original Canadian musical plays, and the group notes several community theatre awards along the way, including being the first amateur theatre group in the Greater Toronto Area to stage the international hit Mamma Mia! (12 sold-out performances in December 2018). SCS Musicals is led by a volunteer board of directors and welcomes everyone who loves music or theatre to take part, on stage or behind the scenes.
